What it is

In plain terms.

Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine, most often developing during the growth spurt before puberty, often with no known cause.

Chiropractic care cannot reverse the curve. It can relieve pain, reduce muscle tension, improve function and help prevent the condition progressing. Early intervention is key.

The signs

When it is worth coming in.

  • Uneven shoulders, hips or ribcage.
  • Back pain.
  • Muscle imbalances.
  • Reduced mobility.

What to expect

How we treat it.

  • Gentle spinal adjustments to improve alignment and mobility.
  • Muscle rehabilitation to strengthen the muscles that support the spine.
  • Soft tissue therapy to reduce tension and improve flexibility.
  • Postural correction and ergonomic advice.
  • In some cases, custom orthotic bracing for growing adolescents with moderate scoliosis.
  • Natural pain management: massage, myofascial release and trigger point therapy.

Questions

Answered from what we tell every patient.

Can chiropractic reverse the curve?

No. It can relieve pain, improve function and posture, and help prevent the curve progressing.

When should we start?

Early. Scoliosis usually develops before puberty, and early intervention gives the best outcome.

Will my child need a brace?

In some cases we may recommend custom orthotic bracing, especially for growing adolescents with moderate scoliosis.
