What it is
In plain terms.
Neck pain usually starts in the cervical spine: seven small vertebrae, C1 to C7, that carry the weight of your head. The top two matter most. The atlas (C1) lets you nod and the axis (C2) lets you turn your head, and that range of motion also makes them more vulnerable to injury and misalignment.
The signs
When it is worth coming in.
- Stiffness and a reduced range of motion.
- Strained muscles from poor posture or overuse.
- Wear and tear such as arthritis.
- Nerve compression from herniated discs or bone spurs.
- Whiplash after an accident.
- Tension headaches that seem to start in the neck.
What to expect
How we treat it.
Specific adjustments gently realign the vertebrae, particularly the atlas and axis, to relieve pressure on nerves, reduce muscle tension and improve blood flow. X-rays guide the adjustments, and a rehabilitation program of exercises and stretches strengthens the neck to help prevent future injuries.
What care can help with
- Pain relief and a better range of motion.
- Muscle tension and spasms in the neck and upper back.
- Headache frequency and intensity.
- Posture, stress and sleep quality.
- Less reliance on pain medication.

Questions
Answered from what we tell every patient.
Why focus on the top of the neck?
The atlas and axis support the skull and let the head nod and turn. Their range of motion makes them more vulnerable to misalignment, which can lead to neck pain.
Can neck problems cause headaches?
Many neck issues are associated with tension headaches, and care for the neck can reduce how often they come and how strong they are.
Will I need x-rays?
X-rays help us understand the structure of your spine and guide precise adjustments. Not every patient needs one.
