What it is

In plain terms.

Misalignment of the top two vertebrae can affect nerve function and blood flow and lead to headache symptoms. Chiropractic care can be particularly effective for tension-type and cervicogenic headaches, and for some migraines.

Getting a proper diagnosis first matters, because some types of headache need specific medical care.

The signs

When it is worth coming in.

  • A dull, aching pain like a tight band around the forehead, often with stress, muscle strain or anxiety (tension-type headache).
  • Throbbing pain with sensitivity to light and sound, nausea or vomiting, sometimes after visual disturbances called auras (migraine).
  • Intense burning or piercing pain, usually around one eye, that comes in cycles (cluster headache).
  • Tension in the neck and shoulders alongside your headaches.

What to expect

How we treat it.

  • Adjustments that improve spinal function and ease stress on the nervous system.
  • Advice on posture and ergonomics at work and at home.
  • Nutritional advice, since some foods and dehydration can trigger headaches.
  • Massage, ultrasound and stretching to relieve muscle tension.
  • Lifestyle changes, including exercise and relaxation techniques.
